ritratto di B.G.Tiozzo

Dear readers,

In this site you can read part of the poems I have written since when I was just over 30 years old After being very sick, I decided not to write any newspaper article anymore. I hence went back to what I was passionate for in my adolescence, writing verses, which is in my opinion the most concise yet passional way to speak to the world and myself.
I am known to the TV audience as the ‘poet of the daily news’, for having written one poem per day live on TV for ten months (on the program UnoMattina – RaiUno at 7.40 am between 2003-2004). The poems were about the very simple topics discussed everyday on the show: fruit, vegetables, shopping, people, life stories.
My experience as author and producer at RAI has lead me to travel around the world a lot. As a consequence, I have faced many different topics, and I have collected opinions and feelings from both leaders and common people.
Therein my versatility as a writer: I am very curious and I like facing our times, ranging from international to everyday events, from civil consciousness to feelings, from spirituality to sexuality.
Over the last years I have worked with many figurative artists and I have written many texts for ballet performances. I have also tried to break the link between poetry and academia, in order to bring poetry closer to the normal people so to transform it into a mean of communicating which encourages self reflection.
I think I have achieved some innovative results:
- In Italy I am the first (and only!) poet of the daily TV news, and also the one who received the largest audience (almost 2 million people every day, with a share of more than 30%)..- I am the first poet- commentator on a daily national newspaper: from July 2001 to January 2003 I have published a poem every day on the front page of “Il popolo”. Each nine- line poem was about one piece of daily news. A selection of the poems has been collected in the book “Il_quotidiano_in_versi” (MiliaPlus, Roma 2003).
- Forty of the ninety intimate stories of women comprising the book “Mi_svelo_ma_in_animo_nuda” have been read by as many famous actresses in a series of evening theatre events. The show on the 22 of December 2003 has been a six hour long “marathon of poetry” read by thirty six different voices.
Thanks to my experience as a TV communicator I write in a language also apt to verbal communication, for its reality, rhythm and speed.. My works are therefore easily adaptable to public readings and have in fact often been transformed in shows, to which actors, singers, musicians, dancers and figurative artists have participated. The titles of these shows appear on the page “Cartellone”.
The most recent poems are on the page Novità; lager compositions are in the page Libri. Reviews by other writers are under Lettere_dagli_amici.

Stories of Christmas time
(Non_era_un'insegna_ma_stella)
In December every year a baby is born, poorest among the poor.
The world, distracted by waste, vices and violence does not notice this event.
Yet there are some who see the light.
These are people witnessing a birth in a hut.
These are real events, perhaps.
I have tried to tell these events through a Christmas letter to my friends every year since 1991,
not to forget that Christmas is not only a time for food and presents.
